The 5 Best Places To Stay in Mallora for Cycling
If you’ve landed here, you’ve probably already decided that you’re ready for a cycling holiday in Mallorca. Great choice! But what are the best places to stay in Mallorca for cycling?
This is a question I get asked all the time. So I started putting down some things on paper, yes I still do that sometimes. That then turned into this blog post.
I hope this full low-down helps you find where to stay in Mallorca for cycling! I’ll not only list the main cycling hubs in Mallorca, but even the best cycling hotels in each of them, plus a few extra tips and tricks.
The Main Cycling Hubs in Mallorca
Get yourself familiar with the island with the map above where I’ve listed the main cycling hubs mentioned in this post.
I’ve also added some of the signature rides and climbs to the map. For a cleaner overview, I decided not to add the best cycling hotels to the map, but you can find links to these in each of the town sections further below.
You’ll notice that the places of Port de Pollensa, Port de Alcúdia and Playa de Muro (the first three places on the list) are located very near to each other. These hubs are located approx. 50 min from Palma Airport (PMI) where you can get an airport transfer or a hire car.
These are the three most popular cycling hubs and probably the best places to stay in Mallorca for cycling. Triathletes also love this area as the bays are ideal for open-water swimming and endless running routes.
They have easy access to all the signature cycling routes and climbs including Cap de Formentor (The Lighthouse), Sa Calobra, Coll de Femenia, Puig Major and Coll de Sa Batalla. The flatter inland and coastal routes are also very easily accessible from here, giving you endless choices of scenery, distances and elevation.
These three main cycling hubs are also packed with cool bike-friendly hotels, bike hire and cycling cafés for some well-deserved aprés-velo treats.
However, all three locations are unique and have their own characteristics. Find out more below and the two other best places to stay in Mallorca for cycling, especially if you’re keen to get away from the cycling crowds.
CYCLING HOLIDAY PACKING LIST
1. Puerto de Pollensa
Puerto de Pollensa, (not to be confused with Pollensa, 6 Km inland) is a small town in northern Mallorca, situated on a beautiful bay. Port de Pollensa is probably the most popular cycling hub in Mallorca and is especially popular among British cyclists.
From April through to the end of October, it’s a lively town with plenty of great restaurants, bars and cafés. However, it’s a calmer type of tourism without late-night clubs. One of the main highlights is the beautiful and authentic pedestrianised promenade with pine trees that runs past the town and along the bay.

2. Puerto de Alcúdia
Or Port d’Alcúdia in Catalan. Just like with Puerto de Pollensa and Pollensa, Puerto de Alcúdia is not to be confused with Alcúdia. Most of the cyclists stay in bike hotels located in the port town of Puerto de Alcúdia. You must visit Alcúdia old-town, but that will be easy to do, as both towns almost connect.
Puerto de Alcúdia has a huge bay that connects the beaches of Puerto de Alcúdia, Playa de Muro and Can Picafort. It’s a busier area and has more of an International crowd. It’s packed with restaurants, bars, shops, cafés and more late-night clubbing options for those who also want to get their dancing shoes on. But during the cycling season, it’s not packed and has a great atmosphere.

3. Playa de Muro
The area of Playa de Muro is probably best known for its white sandy beach, one of the most popular beaches, called..you guessed it, Playa de Muro.
It’s not one of the most authentic places on the island as it’s mainly built up for tourism. But it’s very family friendly and has some great bike hotels. If you or any of the non-cyclists in your group are beach lovers, then this is the place to be!
The Playa de Muro beach connects to the next town to the East, called Can Picafort, which also has great cycling hotels, but from there you’ll just be a bit further away (50 minutes cycling) from the Traumuntana mountain range. Check out the best cycling hotels in Can Picafort.

4. Andratx area
The South-West of the island is where you want to be if you want to get away from the cycling crowds! Enjoy some quieter roads that still have access to amazing cycling routes, including access to the Traumuntana mountain range.
Many cyclists who return to Mallorca year after year tend to stay in the north of the island the first few times. Once they feel they’re ready for a change, they usually opt for the southwest of the island. The are numerous towns, resorts and villages to choose from in the South-west but below are great hotels that cater to cyclists.

5. Playa de Palma
Playa de Palma is the resort that runs across the main beach, to the East of the city of Palma de Mallorca.
This area doesn’t quite offer the same abundance of cycling routes and climbs as some other areas of the island. However you still have some interesting options, including one of the classic climbs up Puig de Randa. Being located near the airport, and not requiring longer transfers to the north of the island, it’s a popular choice for shorter cycling breaks and winter stays! Unlike most of the bike hotels in the north, these bike hotels are open all year.
