10 Most Forgotten Items

Organising and packing for your cycling holiday can be stressful, especially if you leave things until the last minute. If you’re a last-minute packer, like me, then you’re likely to forget some items that could break your cycling holiday abroad.

But don’t worry, I’ve come up with a Cycling Holiday Packing List including the Top 10 items which are most often forgotten. Double check them to make sure you need them on your cycling holiday packing list.

I compiled this list from a survey I sent out to some friends and cyclists here on Mallorca, where I’m based.

I’ll be updating this list regularly with the feedback I receive, including yours hopefully.

Besides the obvious…

Let’s assume you’ll be renting a bike abroad opposed to bringing your own. As much as your bike deserves a holiday too, renting one locally is just so much more convenient. Especially if it’s only for a week or so.

There’s no need to stress about your bike getting lost or damaged in transit, not to mention the shipping costs.

Besides, the cycling hotel you’ll be staying in or the local bike shop will have the latest premium models available. Just remember to book in advance, especially during peak seasons or if you need a very specific model or size. Don’t forget to jot down your bike measurements from home for an optimal bike setup.

Remember, when hiring a bike locally, you’ll be able to rent most accessories also, but for familiarity and comfort consider bringing the following:

  • Cycling shoes
  • Pedals
  • Helmet
  • And if you’re fussy, your saddle.

I’ve resisted the temptation to include the obvious, such as padded cycling shorts. That’s a no-brainer, right?

Instead, this cycling holiday packing list focuses on those items which are often forgotten.

However, if you want an extensive cycling holiday packing checklist, including apparel, gadgets, tools and more, then you can have a copy sent straight to your inbox by clicking here.

Cycling Holiday Packing List - 10 Most Forgotten Items

1. Sunscreen

An obvious one and you would argue it’s an easy one to buy locally. Yes I agree, but you don’t want to lose a morning with a shopping list of items you’ve left behind.

The Spf50 Suntan Lotion Spray is popular amongst athletes and is available in travel size plus is suitable for all skin types.

2. Insect Repellent

Here’s another one people often forget about. If you’ll be cycling in warmer destinations you should consider packing this one. Bugs and bites can be a pain, buzz off.

Check out this travel sized insect repellent which is also sweat and water resistant and one application should protect you for a full day of cycling.

3. Garmin Mount

Not everyone forgets their Garmin, but you’d be surprised how many people forget to pack the mounts.

Order another Garmin mount by clicking here, it’s always to have one spare anyway.

4. First Aid Kit

I never bring one, but I’m sure a day will come I’ll regret that.

Although this a travel sized first aid kit, it’s still slightly bulky to carry in your jersey unless you cycling with backpack. Or if you’re cycling with others you could always take turns.

Better safe than sorry!

5. Go Pro

If you want to show off all your favourite climbs, fast descents and scenic routes to family and friends, then the GoPro is a must bring item!

Many people think they’ll just capture moments on their phone but soon come to regret not bringing a hands free gadget to capture all the action.

6. Bike Lights

Yet another item which is easily left behind. In case you ride back later than you thought – or find tunnels along your route, as is often the case in the mountains, then you must pack bike lights.

This well reviewed product by Trixson provides 4 LED Lights at an incredible price. Click here to get your set now.

7. Power Adaptors

This one is for the UK based travellers. Once back at your bike hotel, you’ll have many gadgets that will need charging. Your phone, tablet, bike computer, sports watch, laptop, etc.

Imagine not being able to charge any of them! That could be the case as finding UK to EU power adaptors locally isn’t always easy. Get this product before you leave which includes 3 USB ports so you can charge multiple devices at the same time.

8. Waterproof Phone Pouch

Even in warmer destinations, the weather can turn, especially in the mountains. Your likely going to have your mobile phone in your jersey pocket. Protect it from unexpected rain showers. This could save you hundreds of euros.

The Velopac RidePac Lite is a water resistant pouch where you can keep your phone safe and will also store keys, coins, cards and important documents.

9. Chamois Cream

You’re likely going to be on the bike for longer than you would be at home, and in warmer weather. Bring some chamois cream, also known as anti-chafing cream. It will prevent the sores from the uncomfortable rubbing against the skin.

10. Bidons

The thought of using a hire bidon which may have been in dozens of mouths before yours, isn’t very appealing. Although they are light weight, they do take up a bit of space. But you can always stuff them with other items you carrying along, plus they’ll be protected. Problem solved.

If you need a few new bidons, then check out this best seller on Amazon.

All the premium products above are travel sizes and besides the GoPro, are all affordable. Again many of these items could really save your cycling holiday. I hope it helped!
