The Best Sports Hotels in Mallorca
You’re probably well aware that Mallorca is a popular destination for sports holidays and training camps. It’s popular for many reasons, its accessibility from mainland Europe, the sporting infrastructure, it’s affordable, and of course for its amazing Mediterranean cuisine.
The climate plays an important role too. Mallorca enjoys typical Mediterranean weather. The most popular time of year for sports holidays on Mallorca are Spring and Autumn. During the winter, the weather can get chilly, but on most days, you can still enjoy mild weather. The summer months of July and August can get extremely hot. But that usually doesn’t stop me, in fact, I quite like the heat, and with around 11 hours of sunlight, you can easily beat the (extreme) heat by setting out nice and early.
But where is the best place to stay? I’ve handpicked some of my favourite sports hotels in Mallorca for you, all in and around the resort area of Alcúdia. But why in Alcúdia?
Active holidays in Alcúdia
Alcúdia lies on the north coast of the island and is just a 40-minute drive (approx. 60 Km) from Palma airport. It’s one of the most popular resorts on the island and offers a unique combination of both a family beach resort (Port d’Alcúdia) and a charming and authentic local atmosphere offered by the medieval old town (Alcúdia).

This part of the island is a favoured destination by cycling and triathlon enthusiasts and is a popular training camp base for professional cycling teams.
I’m fortunate that my in-laws own a house in this area, so it’s a place I know well and where I spend a lot of time in the summer.
There are endless cycling routes for riders of all levels. The area surrounding Alcúdia has coastal routes and flat inland plains as well as easy access to some serious mountain climbs that the Serra de Tramuntana has to offer. Similarly, triathletes love to come here too, the bay of Alcúdia and the bay of Pollença offer ideal open-water swimming conditions, not to mention the endless running routes, from scenic coastal routes to quiet rural country roads.
